Fishing Ethics

With an increasing number of people on the water these days, it is important that we treat each other and the environment a with respect.

  1. Respect other anglers, boaters, and personal property.
  2. Alway throw trash in the appropriate containers. Dispose of unused fishing lines, hooks, leaders, etc. Birds or turtles can become entangled in unused fishing line.
  3. If catch and release angling, use the proper techniques to ensure the quick and safe return of the fish into the water.
  4. Keep your fishing license current. Not only is it the law, the money from licensing is used to help conservation.
  5. Learn all of the fishing and boating regulations. Report any violations.
  6. Never waste fish. Only keep fish that you plan on consuming. If you are not planning on keeping the fish, return it to the water as soon as possible.
  7. Share knowledge with others. Spend some time with a child and teach him/her how to fish.
  8. Support conservation efforts.
